Diagnosis That’s Actually Diagnostic

A 15-minute appointment that ends with a prescription for Adderall isn’t an ADHD assessment. We see a lot of people who were diagnosed that way years ago and have been stuck in a frustrating cycle — the meds help, then stop helping, then they’re taking more, then they’re worried about how they feel without them. Real Evaluation

Structured interview, validated rating scales (DIVA, CAARS, ASRS), childhood history, collateral input where possible. We rule out anxiety, sleep apnea, mood disorders, and trauma-driven attention issues.

Medication Strategy

Stimulants work for most. For people with substance use history, we often start with non-stimulants — atomoxetine, guanfacine, bupropion — and consider stimulants carefully if needed.

Medication clears the fog; coaching builds the systems. Calendars, task management, working memory aids. Concrete skills, not concepts.

SUD Coordination

If stimulants and substance use have been entangled, we work both. Sometimes the right answer is treating ADHD with a non-stimulant. Sometimes it’s a long, careful taper to the right stimulant dose.

Stimulant Misuse and ADHD

Real ADHD plus stimulant misuse is a common picture and a tricky one. We’ve treated it many times. The answer is rarely ‘no more stimulants ever’ — it’s the right stimulant, the right dose, the right oversight.
